From day one, I knew that the main floor bathroom was going to be a complete teardown. First of all, I wanted a large soaker tub/shower combo and it would fit beautifully where the current shower was.
Here is the original bathroom when the house was purchased.
70" soaker tub set in to the newly furred in walls. Note the original wallpaper layers.
I had spent hours scraping the old linoleum, then stripping a layer of glue off the wood floor in the main floor bathroom. I was excited to finally be getting the floors refinished this week! After the first day of sanding, I noticed that there was quite a noticeable stain around the toilet, but was hopeful that once they finished sanding and filling, it would diminish.
No such luck...the stain was clearly going to be visible no matter how much sanding and filling. I knew that every time I walked in there, I would hate it.
After about 12 hours of beating myself up, I realized that a change of plans would need to be made...this was going to be a do-over. I opened up the Houzz app on my iPad and started searching for bathroom ideas. Once I had about 15-20 photos saved, I narrowed down my selections and came up with another plan. I decided on a marble look tile and love the look of this Herringbone pattern tile and the wainscoting on the walls of this bathroom. The vanity in this photo is just like the one I'm putting in the bathroom.
Again, very interesting to see the progress! Those wall studs are way better looking lumber (clear, straight) than what I have seen out here in a long time!
