HOW IT GOT STARTED

The Story

In 2018 I decided to move back to Kellogg where I graduated from high school almost 50 years earlier.  I had retired a couple years earlier from State Farm Insurance after a 23 year career and owned a successful vacation rental home in Vancouver, Washington. My dad had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and I was assigned as his executor. Each trip that I took to Kellogg to help with getting him settled would include a drive-by of a 1902 house with a “For Sale” sign out front.  It needed work, but would make a perfect vacation rental home. Three years later, a complete remodel, and the house is now a thriving vacation rental.
I learned a lot in those three years. I learned to use YouTube…hiring someone to replace light switches and outlets was expensive.  I learned to use a miter saw, hang crown molding, and trim out a room; that a good caulking job can fix almost any mistake.  I learned that it almost always takes longer to complete a project than you think, and that that’s okay because I’m retired.  Most importantly, I learned that I loved restoring a historical home from my home town to its original glory with an updated and modern style.  At the age of 67, I have found my passion.
I invite you to join me on my journey as I restore this stately 100 year old home to its original glory with some unexpected modern touches.
